April 24th Bangkok time, the "Contemporary China and the World" China Thailand Youth Cultural Exchange Forum was held in Bangkok, Thailand. The Forum was jointly held by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies(ACCWS), an affiliate of the the China International Communications Group(CICG), CICG Asia-Pacific including People's China and China Report, Thailand-China Research Center of The Belt and Road Initiative(CTC), CICG Asia-Pacific, Bangkok Branch, Thai-Chinese Cultural&Relationship Council, Thai-Chinese Strategic Research Center (TCRC) of the National Research Council of Thailand(NRCT), Chandrakasem Rajabhat University, The Leader Asia and Bangkok Today. This forum was held to build the sense of responsibility and mission of Chinese and Thai youth, which is also one of the projects of the "Panda Cup" activities for Thai youth to experience China.

At the opening ceremony of the Forum, Mr. Phinij, former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Chairman of the Thai-Chinese Cultural&Relationship Council, said that the exchanges between Thai and Chinese youth play an important role in the development and inheritance of Thailand-China friendly relations, and the young people of the two countries should strengthen mutual understanding and become good friends who share the same heart and weal and woe. China is a great country and has made amazing achievements in development in just a few decades since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Thai youth should strengthen their understanding of China's history and development experience. It is hoped that such seminars can be held more often, and our Council will also provide strong support to promote exchanges and visits between the young people of the two countries.

Mr. Han Zhiqiang, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, said that the Belt and Road Initiative will benefit both the present and the future. Thailand is an important participant and beneficiary of the Belt and Road Initiative. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, it is timely for young people from China and Thailand to gather together and talk about the Belt and Road Initiative. The Thai government has successively introduced the 20-year development strategy and the "Thailand 4.0" development plan, focusing on the "bio-circular green" economic model, which is highly consistent with the development concepts and objectives of the "Belt and Road", and the development strategies and policy concepts of the two countries are fully aligned. The "Panda Cup" series of activities for Thai Youth to Perceive China was successfully held in Thailand. Many Thai youth representatives actively participated in the activities, and talked about China's development, China-Thailand relations and China-Asean relations from the perspective of youth. They offered suggestions for the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" between China and Thailand, and fully demonstrated the strength and responsibility of youth.

     Mr. Gao Anming, Deputy Director and Editor-in-Chief of CICG, said that in recent years, the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Thailand has continuously achieved new results, the traditional friendship between the two countries has been continuously carried forward, the comprehensive strategic cooperation has continued to deepen, and the bilateral relations have entered a new stage of development. He pointed out that young people carry the future and hope of China-Thailand relations. In this regard, he proposed to deepen cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the young people of China and Thailand, build and make good use of dialogue and interaction platforms; China and Thailand should strengthen youth cooperation in science and technology innovation, and jointly promote the in-depth alignment of the "Thailand 4.0" development strategy and the "Belt and Road" Initiative. Efforts should be made to form a China-Thailand youth cooperation mechanism featuring mutual benefit, innovation and win-win results to consolidate the foundation of China-Thailand comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. As a professional and comprehensive international communication agency, CICG will carry out more China-Thailand exchange activities and make more contributions to the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Thailand and the building of a more stable, prosperous and sustainable China-Thailand community with a shared future.

      Ms. Sumalee, President of the Chandrakasem Rajabhat University stated that the friendship between Thailand and China has a long history, and youth cultural exchanges are an important component of the mutual connection between the two peoples. They are also the backbone of working together to build a community with a shared future for mankind between Thailand and China. Youth exchanges contribute to the cooperation between Thailand and China in the fields of technology and innovation.

At the round table with the theme of "Contemporary China and the World in the New Era", young leaders from Thai politics, media think tanks, business and cultural circles jointly discussed the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Thailand youth cultural exchanges, innovation cooperation and social responsibility. Mr. Wirun, Director of CTC, encouraged more Thai young people to learn Chinese and understand Chinese culture during the round table discussion. He said that language learning is an important channel to promote cultural exchanges, and language communication will build an important platform for Thai-China youth exchanges and the inheritance of Thai-China friendship. During the forum, the award ceremony of the "Panda Cup" Thai Youth Perception China Essay Contest was also held. The "Panda Cup" essay contest began in 2014 and has been successfully held for nine consecutive years in Japan.  This is the first "Panda Cup" Thai Youth Perception of China Essay Competition, with the theme of "Me and China", which has been widely concerned and actively participated by Thai youth from all walks of life. After review, a total of 16 awards were selected, including 1 excellence award, 5 finalists award and 10 excellent awards.

At this forum, ACCWS, an affiliate of the CICG, and CTC jointly released the survey results of Thai people's perception of China's national image.

The research showed that new media has become the main channel for Thai people to get Chinese news and Thai people's demand for China-related information is on the rise and The Belt and Road Initiative has become a representative symbol of China in the eyes of the Thai people. It is suggested to actively build a new generation of symbols concerned by young people such as AI, high-speed rail, new energy vehicles, and the "Belt and Road", and use the communication advantages of symbols to refresh and broaden Thai people's understanding and recognition of China to build brand projects and promote people-to-people exchanges between Chinese and Thai youth so that China and Thailand will strengthen scientific research cooperation and carry out multi-topic research and discussion.

Mr. Surasit, Director of TCRC, said that youth is an important force for bilateral exchanges, and the perception of the young people of Thailand and China on each other's countries determining the quality of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. Building a Thai-China community of shared future requires the in-depth and long-term participation of the youth of Thailand and China. Promoting the exchanges between the youth of Thailand and China and establishing a correct understanding of Thailand and China have become an important factor in promoting the high-quality development of  "the Belt and Road".
